About Anthropology
Anthropology is the study of humankind—our origins; the development of language, creativity, technology, communication, and social organization; how we make meaning in and of the world; and how we respond to broader processes and emergent situations. Anthropologists work with ideas and methods from nearly every other field to better understand the human condition in all its diversity.
About the Anthropology Department
The UCCS Department of Anthropology focuses on teaching students how to apply ideas and insights to real-world situations. We ensure that our students have access to hands-on learning—in laboratories, community-based projects, field schools, healthcare settings, and even the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo!
Careers in Anthropology
Students who major in anthropology are successful in a wide variety of careers and graduate degree programs. UCCS Anthropology graduates currently work in museums, archaeological surveying, CRM companies, public health NGOs, city governments, marketing firms, hospitals, health research initiatives, and as public outreach liaisons, to name a few.
Others have gone on to obtain advanced degrees in anthropology, law, medicine, public health, geography, creative writing, the arts, biology, urban planning, history, sociology, philosophy, English, linguistics, and cultural resource management.
